Stokenchurch dog rescue (formerly known as The Dog Rescue and Welfare Society) was originally formed by local residents in 1963 to save the lives of stray and unwanted dogs, as well as those impounded by the Police.
Since then many thousands of dogs have been brought to us and have been successfully re-homed. And, although the Police no longer take in ‘lost’ pets, we still provide this invaluable service to pet owners until they can be reunited with their much loved canine family member once again.
We never destroy a healthy dog, believing that somewhere there is a kind and permanent home for every dog. We also take in and care for the sick, the old and the traumatised, and no dog in need is ever refused our help. If we have room, we offer them all a home and do everything within our power to rehabilitate them whenever possible, both physically and psychologically.
Thank you to all who attended our open day and supported us despite the bad weather.
Anja who is one of our volunteers took pictures on the open day and has provided a link to her external website where the pictures can be viewed.

Cleaning up and getting chummy
We have a good team of staff but regularly need volunteers to help us to clean our recently modernised kennels and to get chummy with our dogs as the interaction makes their lives happier. It means they stand a better chance of finding new homes.
A happier dog is a friendlier dog.

Enrichment Project
This is a project to enrich the outdoor paddock areas. The paddocks are the outdoor play areas for the dogs. At the moment the paddocks are fenced off with just grass. We would like to to enrich the play areas and make them more exciting for our dogs.

Our little shop welcomes more customers
A little shop selling some of the best of the items donated to us for jumble sales has been doing well since it opened in September 2008 - but some supporters may not realise it's there.

We always have dogs of all ages, sizes and shapes, and all have different personalities, temperaments and needs. Some may need an extra-special new home, others may need owners with experience of their particular breed, and some may not be suitable to share a new home with small children. Always keeping our dogs’ characteristics and previous experiences in mind, we do our very best to match the right owner with the right dog on an individual basis.

Because it is our policy never to destroy a healthy dog, and because of particularly damaging experiences in their past, some of our charges are, unfortunately, with us for a long time - and sometimes even for life. Sponsoring a dog is a great way to help us care for them.
But there are many other ways in which you can help us provide the care neglected dogs so desperately need. Apart from sponsoring a dog, you could sponsor a kennel or even donate towards our urgent Rebuild Appeal?
Click 'Our Dogs' for more information.
We are an independent self-supporting registered local charity and without your help our work would be impossible.

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue are proud to be supported by James Wellbeloved
The Pet Community award is handed out to special dog rescue websites who go above and beyond the call of duty to help abandoned and homeless dogs in their local communities. As most people know, all pet rescue centres are made up of hard working, dedicated volunteers who give their valuable time to this great cause, this award is to say your hard work is appreciated and acknowledged by pet lovers within our own online pet community.
