SDR supporters should give thanks to a pensioner and the manager of a High Wycombe store who came to our rescue just before our summer fair in July.
We have been holding monthly jumble sales at the kennels for some years but some of the metal and wood tables we have used are heavy, rusty, splintering and small. Setting out tables at our sales had become more of an ordeal for the fund raising group which is predominantly aged over 60.
Word of our plight spread to Ruby Bevan, who is 84 and one of our most loyal supporters. Her son Dave is our buildings manager and her daughter Chrissie supervises our buy a brick scheme and big raffles.
Knowing that our funds are stretched Ruby sent us £300 to buy new tables and anything else to help with fund raising.
We shopped around with Ruby's money and then Ashley Watts, manager of Wickes, the building supplies store in Wycombe Marsh, came to our rescue. We urgently needed at least 15 new sturdy and large tables and he agreed to let us have them at half price. It means that Ruby's money will go further and some is being kept in reserve for more tables eventually.
So our thanks to Ruby, a real diamond donor, and Ashley, a good ambassador for his firm. Their support was featured in the Bucks Free Press.
